Project Title: Insidious Poster Redesign

Target audience:

Horror and psychological thriller movie fans

Background:

A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Design problem:

To redesign the movie poster for Insidious and including web and mobile visuals.

Design process:

My vision was to take a significantly more simple approach with a bit of an indie feel for this redesign. I wanted to include imagery that is significant to the movie franchise and a repeating element is the red door in the dark. The original poster font is a little too simple, in my opinion, while the opening title in each film is the stylized, sort of funky looking wordmark. I thought the contrast of the simple design worked a lot better with the slightly more complex design of the title and made it more eye-catching.

Design solution:

I was inspired by the minimalist indie redesigns of famous movie posters for the final design. I used two main images to be the focal points - the red door and the main character, as well as the stylized title of the movie to contrast the simplicity of the poster design. Adding a film scratch texture and retro border gives the poster a new yet entrancing refresh.
